Netball South Regional News

Excellent play at the Regional Qualification Tournament saw both our U16s and U14s qualifying for next seasons Regional Leagues.

The U16s were in a group of 24 teams viying for one the 16 spots in the two divisions.  This was a tight competition with just one point seperating 5th to 10th place after the third round of matches.  The team finished with 20 points and a very credible 10th place, securing a spot in Div 2.

The U14s were one of 20 teams, again competing for a place in the top 16.  They had some tough matches but continued to battle and also finished with 20 points, securing them 7th place and a spot in Div 1, which was a fantastic and well earned result.

Both coaches were incredibly proud of how their teams played and look forward to seeing them develop next season.

1994 - The first ever Crawley Down team

Founded in 1994, by Andy Polley, the club was formerly known as Crawley Down Netball Club, hence the CD part of our current club name. The club is based in the East Grinstead area of Sussex and draws players in from not only surrounding towns and village, but as far away as Worthing, Brighton and London.

The club has teams playing in the South Regional Leagues, from Seniors down to U14’s, we also play in local leagues in East Grinstead, Crawley and Brighton.

The main training sessions are on Thursdays. Most teams train every Thursday evening throughout the summer months and indoors on Wednesday or Thursday in the winter.

From the beginning of November to the end of March, training sessions are based indoors at East Grinstead Sports Club, Imberhorne School, Lingfield Notre Dame School, Jubilee Community Centre and Sackville School.

During the summer months and the early part of autumn, training takes place outside at the Netball Centre based at East Grinstead Sports Club, Saint Hill Road, East Grinstead.

Training session times vary according to player age:

1997 - The first team to make it to the National Finals, first player on the front row is Louise Ames, who still plays for our Senior 1st Team

Under 10’s - normally starting at 18:00 moving to 17:00 in the winter months when we go inside.

Under 11 - Under 15 usually commencing at 18:00.

Older age groups - typically start training at 19:30.
